The thought? The atom symbol isn't only about nuclear energy, and is not shaped like a bomb blast, but can sometimes be connected to that. What about the famous double helix instead?
The word? "Humaste." I invented it (as far as I know) a couple of years ago as a secular humanist riff on "namaste."
Not sure how the atomic-ish symbol got established as "atheism." Humaste? Maybe. But I fear its fate will be similar to Paul Kurtz's eupraxophy. (or "eupraxsophy")---If you don't know what it means, you could look it up--but that's kind of my point. And I loved Paul Kurtz.
I like "Humaste." The VA does have a form to add a "emblem of belief." Double helix? Perhaps. How about the simple Dawkins caligraphic "A" without any double meanings. (Sorry about the bad pseudo-pun.)
Yesterday's AFS program was, coincidentally, on Scientology. And you're right! And, BTW, readers, the speaker--Paul Broman--has promised to share a script of that interesting talk to be used as a guest essay here!
I like the idea of the double helix; also the outline or cameo of a human head.
Two which were overlooked: circle with inscribed triangle (AA); triangle with inscribed circle (Al-Anon). I know 12-Steppers who would never consider even entering a church. Does Rational Recovery have a logo?
A thought and a word to share.

There needs to be a guy in a straitjacket for Scientology.

I dunno if rational recovery has a logo--interesting possibility
